I made a last minute decision to watch 'Flight Risk'. Mark Wahlberg being the draw card.
In short, a disappointing low budget film. If you're expecting an edge of your seat thriller, I recommend going back to your DVD collection and pulling out the movie 'Se7en' starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, than spending a few bucks on Flight Risk.
I was suprised with Mel Gibson's underwhelming directing. He is definitely more capable, as we've seen in his past flicks.
The acting was slightly robotic, though we saw glimpses of realness at times.
Wahlberg did his best to support a film lacking in performance, which gave it some credibility.
The sound mixing did lack that typical 'thriller' ambience that one would expect.
Mel may have decided to dump the idea of orchestral scores for budgeting reasons. But I feel it may have help fill the void of audio ambience, adding to the weak level of film suspense.
Some points in the film were a little too unrealistic for my liking. A plane crashing through a snow topped mountain and flying off nicely. Mmm.
A pigeon hitting the window? Yep, well that does happen. Nothing like throwing in a little jump scare!
I guess I expected more from 'Flight Risk', but it goes straight into the 'B grade' category for me.
My partner who is Indian said it best..
'I felt like I was watching a low budget Bollywood film with caucasian actors'.
Nice little tax write off for the exec producers anyway.
1 star for the effort.. and pigeon jump scare.
