So many things wrong with this movie that are I consistent with the previous movies and lack rie-in to connect them in context. The movie left many unanswered questions. What was the original mission (was the Space Ranger ever really explained or was it assumed that they explored the universe looking for new things like Star Trek)? What formula changes were made during each trip (they spun through them too fast)? Since they had already developed "hyper speed" wouldn't they have known that his aging would be different? Where was the development of the ground force and crew? When they are running to save their ship there wasn't a single other person seen on the ship except they third person they were on the planet with. There was what appeared to be a cryo room but that was super brief and never developed. And using their skills to mine the resources of the planet they magically developed smelting, casting and forging plants for the minerals, matching and heat treating plants for the hydraulics (the list goes on and on)? During the LGBTQ+ scenes she is now pregnant. Last time I checked two women can't make a baby. If you are going to promote this agenda to kids (a practice I abhore) at least be fully honest about it and involve the donor instead of pretending there is nothing different about having a baby between heterosexuals vs homosexuals. What about the backstop of Zorg? Is it all new? Didn't Andy get Woody after seeing the movie? If so, Pixar needed to do a better job creating continuity between them (having Zorg be a different Buzz of the future is too borrowed from Star Wars). Where was Tim Allen as the voice-over for Buzz? Buzz's appearance was also different.
I could keep going but to what end. Disney used to care about delivering to kids an escape from reality (Cinderella), providing moral direction (Mary Poppins), or just some fun humor (The Apple Dumpling Gang or the Herbie movies among dozens of others). Today Disney is about politics, power and pandering to the WOKE crowd which represents a very small minority.
Today I am one of "those" people who starts off a story to my kids by saying "ya know, back when I was your age, Disney was...". What a sad story that is. This movie could have been so much more than it was. I am not hanging my hat on Disney anymore to produce the kind of films I will pay money to see.
