I wanted to like this movie, and it had a number of funny moments, but it's almost as if the project existed mostly to help Joel Booster find a boyfriend in real life (as if that hunk needs any help). It was distracting the effort spent on making him look good next to his posse. I buy his romance with Will, and they clearly put all the effort there, but the one between Howie and Charlie was comically undercooked, with an unearned climax. It's not hard to sell the idea of a conventionally less attractive guy winning over some hottie if they show that there's more than meets the eye (they made him look like a whiny stereotype instead), and ANY evidence of chemistry with the other guy (rather than the tokenistic, wordless background interactions we were given). Motivations were unconvincing as much of the plot was propelled on a totally contrived rule Noah imposed on himself. Lastly, i cringed at the ham-fisted manner in which the film treated race relations, reminding me of how much more uplifting films like Ali Wong's "Always Be My Maybe" are in ushering in racial equality. It could've been so much better
