Authentic! I loved how the very first line spoken by Abuela in this beautiful film was Spanish "Ovre tu ojos." Open your eyes. Having seen Lin Manuel's play and movie (both) "In the Heights" I again tasted the finesse of blending animation with music enough to imagine the whole thing on stage...how the characters would sing and dance together live. Genius. Bring Kleenex, because there are very touching scenes but also empowering messages! I'm happy that a sub-plot was part of the storyline which addressed women's tendency to always "be strong and bear the world on our shoulders" and "maintain being pretty and perfect". Even matriarch Abuela had lessons to learn. The other aspect of this lovely animated film that I appreciate is the depicting of characters in all of the skin tones that South Americans are. Fun, colorful and great story and music!

I love the twist and turns in the plot and I love that it's set in NYC, my home town!

Spielberg... I'm used to him doing movies like ET, Jaws, Jurassic Park and Close Encounters so I was surprised to hear he was re-working a classic musical drama that I remember watching for the first time probably 50 years ago on TV. This movie was beautiful, a mix of "In The Heights" meets "Grease". Amazing to see Rita Moreno starring in this story again after all of these years, even as a different character. It's been decades since moving from my Native NYC but I can vouch for the broken buildings, the salt warehouses I used to play in and the fire escapes I spent time on, while growing up in Inwood/WaHeights. OMG how cool it was to see the monastery at the Cloisters! As a kid it seemed so much bigger, in the movie it looked like it shrank. Can't go home again they say. Living in Seattle for 30 years and now in Phoenix area, I grab any chance I can to see a film based in my home town. I also loved the background billboards and posters "Palisades Amusement Park" and "Playland". "Schaefer Beer"! Love it and enjoyed singing the songs again. This timeless Romeo and Juliette story is still relevant today and probably always will be.

Beautiful tear-jerking film. I learned things about the Queen of Soul that I hadn't known as a child. Great music, acting and cast.

One word : Wow! Great flick from beginning to end! I laughed, cried and sang. Bohemian R. was great but Rocketman outdid it. Story-line and music intertwine beautifully. Reminiscent of the epic 1970s flick "Tommy" featuring Roger Daltry and The Who. A must see, must see again and must own.
