Sean McNamara aims to try to resurrect and whitewash Reagan's devastating legacy when he's largely responsible for introducing the GOP's primary policy of cutting taxes on the wealthiest Americans and paying for it by raising taxes on the middle class, taxing seniors' Social Security for the first time. Republicans like Newt Gingrich and Grover Norquist followed the precedent set by Reagan by unleashing cut after cut to public programs. The man's devastating legacy is still present today with the GOP continuing his policy of gutting of public education in the name of lower taxes for the wealthiest Americans. And shuttering mental asylums which are no longer available to help treat the explosion in the population of unhoused, mentally unwell individuals in this country. No, Reagan is a stain on the history of this country and his legacy of lower taxes for the rich at any cost with "trickle down economics", or as his own VP called it "voodoo economics", is exactly why this country is suffering from record levels of income inequality and economic anxiety. No amount of Dennis Quaid smiles is going to whitewash that.

Rob Reiner's informative and quite revealing look at the modern christian nationalist movement in America. Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale is the reality these religious fundamentalists crave where democratic ideals are just impediments to the backwards moralistic world they wish to force upon everyone. I will say I have nothing against any religion. Believe what you want, I really don't care. The problem is when religious extremists attempt to force their beliefs upon all Americans. This doc is a glimpse into the ugly, coercive, and dystopian reality christian nationalists wish to impose on America. I'm dealing with the reality of it already here in Arizona where they've successfully rolled back women's rights to the 1860s. A time when women couldn't even vote. Not at all unlike the Taliban. And restricting our American freedoms like they're seeking couldn't be more un-American. Make no mistake, next up on their agenda is contraception, sex toys, and whatever dangerous and antiquated beliefs they find they'd suddenly like to force on us all.
