I'm reminded of Geraldine Brooks's remarkable book, chronicling the effects of the Black Plague on a small community of a town in C17th England, when reading of the spread of the corona virus throughout the world in 2021.
An eerily prescient tale that reflects the fear, heroism, racism and bitterness of the protagonists in Year of Wonder, reflected in the attitudes and responses to the corona virus of people everywhere...as the virus spreads so does xenophobia, fear and, occasionally, great acts of heroism.
Like all of Brook's writing this is a beautifully written and crafted book, full of suspense and pathos.
