So sad. I like J.G. books, but this was a dud. It's as if he and his ghost writer didn't coordinate, thus leaving replicated material throughout. The mechanics dragged on with so many characters and places it was humorous. I'm surprised the editor didn't cut half that out. Banal and repetitive dialogue leading nowhere. It was a suspense killer. There was virtually no timing or pace whatsoever. Too much fluff and filler: 2 pages spent on wife's cooking job? Don't care about the kids' great time on island; one more plane, car ride, meeting, or restaurant/food conversation, etc would have put me over the edge! So much irrelevance. Was that an attempt at developing characters? Didn't work. If all that had been removed, there'd be no book left !Plot disappeared other than that almighty deadline characters struggle with to round up ransome money: especially odd after all the hype about how ritzy ditzy and rich the law offices were. And most importantly, NOT a sequel at all, especially with family man Mitch beebopping around, free of any mob or bad guy followers. What alien stole the real Mitch and took over his backstory. Is this JG exploiting his own 1st successful book to shoot for a movie deal? Maddening stuff like this gets published when a lot of us who've worked our tails off on one book, can't even get an agent.
