Matilda the musical cannot even compare with the original movie Matilda! It feels like a bad parody. Brilliant acting of Danny Devito, Mara Wilson, Rhea Perlman and the rest of the 1996 movie crew was so superb and so much reflected Dahl’s original evil humor that it seems impossible to overcome. The musical feels like a loud balagan and I think dropping some elements of the story twists original ideas (like personal dislike of Wormwoods by Ms. Trunchbull because of Matilda’s father’s cheating, Wormwood family’s favoritism towards their son and so many others). I would recommend to watch the movie again rather than waste time on the musical
