I have very much enjoyed sampling David Heidenstam's 'Tales for my Dog'. These beautifully written, short, sometimes very short, stories offer something for everyone (but not canines, however intelligent they might be). Heidenstam's tales are perfect for people who prefer their fiction to be presented as an espresso rather an a latte.
