Most people don't know that Mark Twain wrote an historical book on Joan of Arc. He spent 10 years in France studying the historical documents and locations regarding Joan of Arc. He became fascinated by her life story -- a teen-age peasant girl leading the French army in several victories against England which resulted in reversing the course of the Hundred Years War. Look Magazine listed Joan of Arc as one of the hundred most important figures in history. Unfairly convicted of being a witch by her English and French enemies, Joan of Arc was exonerated in the 20th century by the Pope, and has been named the patron saint of France.
