I just saw the film for a discussion with my film club, and had never seen it before. Really enjoyable experience seeing where the noir genre springs from. Besides the myriad comments that other viewers have left here (some of which I agree with), I would like to add something that I did not see mentioned by other viewers: this is clearly a "bromance," or something even more serious between Walter and Keyes. It is no wonder the last scene features the two of them confessing their love for each other. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that! It is just interesting that the film puts two (blond women) between Walter and Keyes, and the latter refers to his former fiancee in very disparaging ways. Yep. It is a love story, but one that could not be told openly in the 1940's, I think.
