A P – Google

This book probably isn’t for everyone, but it was the perfect gift to share with my adult daughter. Like Trevor relates in his introduction of how his mother read to him as a child, I also read to my daughter- a LOT. And like Trevor, my daughter was always seeking adventure, always running somewhere- to Germany, Turkey, Nigeria, Peru. It’s a good book to share in this way; to let your grown child know that it’s okay to run off on adventures, and that mom will always welcome them home when they return.

I suppose it is a sign of the times that Mary Poppins, who in 1964 came to show us that it is most important for Dad to spend time with his children and to give money to the poor, now returns in 2018 to tell us that we're damn lucky that Dad DID put work first and DIDN'T give that money to the poor, because even though we've had to put away our creativity, throw away our childhood joy, lose those we love, and work at a menial job, we can still count on Dad's frugality and hard work to buy us happiness. The old movie speaks of moral values, magic and delight. The new just speaks of spoiled young adult inheritance and privilege. No wonder Mary Poppins looked disgusted when she flew off.
