The main character the author has created is an educated and accomplished lawyer who comes to the realization that she needs to follow her dream and passion of becoming an artist; a talent she has possessed her whole life. Society expects her to continue with the hand she has been dealt, but what happens when your heart yearns to create with your gifts instead?
The author does not hold back from sharing an honest account of her addictions, anger, guilt, and depression, along with fighting off the naysayers around her including her own inner voice. The artist credits the wisdom of her creative friends or ‘soul sisters,’ to helping her obtain her dream. The thought-provoking insight each of these artists possess is life-affirming. Even the female German Shepard belonging to one of the friends has lessons to teach them throughout. They are all searching together, and the answers are not easy to find; hence the length of this book.
In some parts, you feel as if you are going through self-awakening and rehabilitation alongside them. The author stresses throughout this book the importance of trusting yourself while surrounding yourself with positivity, along with trustworthy, straightforward, supportive, genuine friends who have your back through the best and worst of times. A book well worth the read, as I found myself marking pages with thoughts and words that seemed to come from my own heart and mind.
