First of all, I want to thank the director for adapting Omniscient Readerโs Viewpoint into a live action.
But second of all?
They did an absolute disservice to the story.
It feels like they didnโt understand the material at all. How do you read ORV and come away thinking, โAh, yes. Kim Dokja is a pure hero saving the world from the apocalypseโ? That completely misses the point of his character.
Kim Dokja isnโt some glorified savior. Heโs selfish, calculating, and emotionally closed-offโand thatโs what makes him compelling. The beauty of ORV isnโt in watching a man selflessly save the world. Itโs watching a man who would do anything to reach the ending of the story he clung to his whole life, even if it means manipulating everyone around him or sacrificing himself without ever asking for praise.
This adaptation flattened that nuance. They made Kim Dokja inspiring when he shouldโve been haunting. They made him noble when he shouldโve been morally gray. And in doing that, they stripped away the emotional weight of the story entirely.
This isn't just about being faithful to the plotโit's about being faithful to what ORV is really about: a man who finds meaning in fiction, because real life never gave him a reason to believe he mattered.
