Shaun Tan was inspired by film makers like Terry William, Stanley Kubrick, Tim Buton and Ridley Scott, they mainly influenced his artworks but if I had to guess his art teachers would have also played a good role in the influence of his artwork. Shaun tan’s style is starting paintings with thin layers of acrylic over white lines on a dark background, working from dark to light and continuing with oil for the final rendering.
