Wonderful book. The harsh criticism of this book is almost entirely unfounded. The idea that great literature can only have merit if it is constrained to the author's respective race, gender, ethnicity etc... is wholly incorrect and unjustifiable. If one cannot express their opinion over certain matters because they lack characteristics attributed to said matters then why value empathy at all? Why value the attempt to comprehend another across boundaries of race, gender, ethnicity etc...? This sort of thinking which antagonizes your fellow human is irresponsible. One of the greatest human abilities that allows an understanding between people with uncommon origins, empathy, is being undermined on a nonsensical basis. Even if this book does not capture with absolute accuracy the experiences of immigrants, that does not warrant the rabid vitriol and threats towards the author. It is disgusting that people are so willing to demonize so harshly someone's attempt to understand and capture the struggles of others.
