This series is has a very different feel than the other NCIS series and instantly captured my interest. It is well cast and my only issue is that I wish the actor playing Gibbs was closer in size to Mark Harmonโฆ as his height is a little jarring. I like the brooding energy and the way Gibbsโ perspective is shaped by his time as a probie.
For long time fans of the original series, this backstory is an awesome connecting of the dots and foreshadowingโฆ but it is also very enjoyable as a stand alone 90s cop procedural show for anyone unfamiliar with NCIS and its long standing characters.
Even taking opportunities to flesh out key relationships like Gibbs and his father adds so much depth to what we know comes 20 some years later.
Hats off to whomever envisioned the concept and tone of this series. I think it is brilliant and engaging. I hope too that it is garnering a significant audience base so that it will be picked up for many more seasons.
