There are two things that make this series stand out (for me) in the LitRPG genre: firstly it mixes real world thriller elements and the virtual world side involves more than one game.
Again, for me, this series is the best of it's kind, the characters are well rounded and well written. Some find the game stats of the LitRPG genre off-putting but I generally, just skim these sections to get back to the narrative. The game sections are wonderful, especially as Leah moves between games. The real world parts only add to the layers within this future view of the world.
I wouldn't suggest you start your exploration of this genre with this series; everything else might seem somewhat flat!
