The book was fine. I wish I could write a raving review but ultimately couldn’t. I bought the book last spring and just finished it today. I don’t quite know what it was that didn’t keep me hooked day in and day out but it frustrated me that this text didn’t keep me captivated and attached to every word and page like a lot of the books I usually read, do. I bought it because it’s about the cloisters, a young art historian, all things that I love as an individual who studied art history and always wanted to work at The Met.
There was a lot of good but not enough to make a full 5 stars for me. It felt like the exposition went on for too long, action happened and then everything kind of just happened so quickly after that it was just really weird for me as a reader. Oddly enough I also felt she dove into the specifics about art history that even for me a fanatic found it a little bit too much and kinda boring?
Ultimately it felt like she had a lot of great ideas for a story and put them all into one and it was just a bit much. I really wanted to like it more and disappointed that I didn’t.
