never liked pokemon before this. tried the older gens, found them boring as hell. thought this would be another botw ripoff with buggy graphics and laggy gameplay. was prepared to hate it.
but somehow i kept playing the game. i knew it was buggy and whatever, i got to experience it. but i kept playing it. i was having legitimate fun with it. this changed how i feel about video games. yes it's buggy as hell. yes the textures look like they're from 2003. yes it crashed on me multiple times (be sure to save frequently).
BUT: this is the first pokemon game that actually made me care about pokemon (never really liked the old gens). the story hits harder than it has any right to, despite performance falling apart around it. paldea feels ALIVE in ways most "polished" games don't. took quite a few screenshots of the world. you can glide anywhere and the world actually feels worth exploring. im not afraid to say i had legit fun playing this.
games have no value if i fall asleep to their gameplay loop. and for this game, i didn't.
if you play games for benchmark scores, skip this. if you play games to have fun, and like pokemon for anything other than spreadsheets and maths, this is mandatory.
i discovered that games aren't about performance metrics. it doesn't matter how well it runs if it's boring. and this game isn't boring. feel free to play it. you'll have fun.
though, i do think the game would've been much better without the performance issues. i dont know what happened during this game's development, but i really wish they would've put in the time needed for a proper release. seeing how ambitious it is, i don't think it was a lack of effort, but a lack of time.
