If I could give this book 0 stars I would! The narrative uses sentences like "even though Minty was a slave, she was happy", "the plantation house was large and grand", "None of the slaves wore shoes. Still, they had fun.". The book refers to slave owners as masters and suggests often that enslaved people were "happy and joyful". It's misleading, offensive, and truthfully bizarre.
