If you're an educated critic, all of the holes in the story prevent support of the suspension of disbelief. It's the 1990's. Even though there are cars and some televisions and a few other devices that tell us this- not to mention Bill Clinton in the white house- to support the '90's era backdrop. Yet, despite this, we are expected to believe that robot technology has somehow become incredibly advanced, eclipsing today's AI tech, to a degree that mechanically and technologically, the robots have the ability to think, reason, speak, and even have distinct personalities, and have taken over most mundane jobs that humans used to do.
I kept trying to make sense of the BS- and never could.
All the writers needed to do was create a backdrop of the year 2028 or 2030 rather than the 1990's.
Also, it was pointless to show that the hero's little brother was highly intelligent. There was never an established connection between him and Stanley Tucci's character, so it made no sense that little brother was taken from the hospital so his mind could be used to control the Sentry. How did they know little brother was a genius? He walked away from the college entrance exam, yet after the accident, the doctor who wore glasses was conveniently in the hospital working, and somehow knew the boy was the one mind they needed? There was a much better way to tell this story but nobody spoke up to tell the writers that nothing added up.
Beyond that, yes it was occasionally humorous watching Chris Pratt reprise the same character ge played in Guardians of the Galaxy. But also boring because it felt like they just lifted that character and placed him in this movie.
I also found the brother/sister relationship massively odd. No brother and sister are that close unless they are having an incestuous relationship.
There were so many things that didn't add up, and I was annoyed that the writing and storytelling was so poorly done. If everything adds up in your story, the audience is rewarded when plot points are revealed. There was no reward here- just disappointment that we are expected to disregard logic and sensible storytelling and swallow the BS just to get through the story.
I am sure most people enjoyed it- today's audiences aren't intelligent so its easy for them to overlook holes in the story, since screenwriting has gone to hell in the last 10 years.
Enjoy.
