"Inventing Anna" is another failed Netflix attempt to tell a story while (not so) subtlety inserting their political agenda: complaining about how badly women have it these days in a world run by tyrannical men (mean man boss, inconvenience of pregnancy and career, evil dictator named Donald Trump). All while telling the story of an immigrant European con-WOMAN who committed grand larceny in the excess of hundreds of thousands, while taking advantage of hard-working people, and making the USA look like a bunch of fools (hint: Americans are, thanks to the naive, "woke" people who worry more about appearing xenophobic, than protecting themselves from the realities of the world around them- sound familiar?) To sum up the hypocrisy of this story, a FEMALE thief is ultimately covered by a FEMALE journalist, who is more worried about finishing up her precious magazine article than setting up a nursery for the first child she is expecting with her "yes dear" husband (how dare pregnancy inconvenience her career aspirations in this male dominated world). Any ladies out there yell to your husbands, "f- - k your sperm?", because your life choices are now interfering with your career? I didn't think so. BTW- this series was produced by a woman. Oh, the irony. I found everything outside of Anna herself, to be annoying, cliche, and downright embarrassing (do people really act like this in the workplace? God help us). The only redeeming quality is that Julia Garner is a great, talented actress. She is the only enjoyable aspect of this otherwise terrible story, which could have been a fascinating series, if the writers spent less time trying to make this a campaign pitch. And how hard would it have been to eliminate the junk fiction and make this an actual true story, without resorting to "the parts that are fiction"? This crime happened 5 years ago, not during ancient times. There is no need to embellish or fill in gaps with this plot, unless the true objective was to mold the storyline into a specific agenda, in order to "con" viewers into buying another tiresome progressive morality lesson, courtesy of the Obama's and their partnership with Netflix.
