A wonderfully uplifting story of goodness, kindness and generosity. Great characters, all very believable and well developed. Great descriptive atmosphere of the era and location .

This was a really interesting book written as it was by the winner of the Nobel prize for Literature. It was very easy to read and full of wonderful description of what life in rural Poland is like. It made me think a lot about what we do to animals; hunting them for sport and killing them for food. It also showed the hypocrisy of people in so called authority who will do anything to make money selling their principles and their country to the highest bidder. The characters in the book are very well drawn and easy to picture. It seems a very simple story but its a very real one.

This book is a hard read. The reader is swept into a world of terror and fear. Ireland, our lovely democracy, has gone and a cruel right wing government now rules. How easy it was for it to happen. Now everyday life is fraught with horror. Nobody is safe. The writing is wonderful and very visual. You can see how awful ithe situation is, you can identify with Eilish as she searches for her. You can scream at her " Get out while you can" but you understand why she chooses to stay. It is terrible to think that people all over the world are experiencing this cruelty in their lives.
