One of my favorite long-form historical dramas that stays true to actual events and historical figures. Each episode is a riveting portrayal of the life and times of Yi Sun Shin. A person born within the highly rigid class system that strongly oppressed anyone who sought to rise above their "status". On another level, the story highlights the brilliant military tactics and naval shipbuilding innovations introduced by Yi Sun Shin. A truly remarkable series.

I have viewed 12 episodes and, after some initial confusion with character development, I found myself totally engaged. Yet, I must say the death of Yeon was a sad event. The emphasis on filial loyalty plays a critical underlying dynamic in the ongoing conflict between the two main characters. I'm looking forward to coming episodes and how the issues are resolved.

The chemistry between the two leading actors was incredible without it becoming overly romantic. The other fascinating element was the core emphasis on the oriental medical practice of acupuncture. The use of the juxtaposition of historical Joseon and modern Seol was quite engaging and essential to the development of the storyline. I highly recommend this film and believe its cinematic strength will appeal to a wide audience.
