This is going to sound more like rant rather than a review, but please bear with me. I have quite a lot of reasons to hate this movie. There will be some spoilers here and there. I tried to put as few as I can, as I don't want to spoil the books for anyone.
This movie was absolutely disappointing. There are just so many things wrong here that it seemed like it was rushed, and don't even get me started on the inaccuracies. The personalities were wrong, the plot was wrong, EVERYTHING in this movie was wrong. It's like they took the book's title and decided to do it in their own way.
They completely threw out the most important scenes that helped Percy grow into the person he is now. Not to mention, they were looking for pearls the whole movie, pearls that, mind you, were given by Poseidon through a naiad I think? They should have been looking for the master bolt in the underworld, only to find out, they had it in the first place, as Luke had planted it in Percy's backpack.
Why was Luke 'killed' anyways? He was supposed to have left twelve year-old Percy in the forest, dying from a scorpion's poison. And, I really don't mind changing how the characters look, but I won't accept the fact that their personalities had changed. Annabeth was supposed to cold and somewhat mean to Percy, since their father and mother have a rivalry of sorts. She was also deemed a little irresponsible in the movie, which is very unlike her.
Annabeth and Percy shouldn't have even started dating, until after the war with Kronos! They were supposed to be oblivious and shy about their feelings for one another, yet here they are just straight up dating.
Uncle Rick, aka Rick Riordan had even stated on twitter,
"Well, to you guys, it's a couple hours entertainment. To me, it's my life's work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it. So yeah. But it's fine. All fine. We're gonna fix it soon . . . ๐"
And as he replied to a comment about Disney+ censoring the Lotus casino scene, he said,
"I don't know, but it's clearly a mistake. They should censor the entire thing. Just two hours of blank screen."
Honestly, I think they could have at least found child actors who fit the ages of the characters in the book series, at this point I don't even know if they tried with this movie. I am utterly disappointed.
From, an extremely angry and disappointed P.J.O. fan.
