Steven conquer

can anybody help me im fairly new to the game just about get my head around it but playing this game on xbox one i cant seem to find out how to open up a map to see my location and allways end up deep in some strange forest with no food and health depleeting by the second any tricks and tips would be so helpfull and ofcourse how do i open the map thank you to anyone who takes the ti.e to help out
