I literally don’t know where to start.. you can tell that some good writers were overpowered by neil and that led to a pretty shitty story. In general, the idea and the message was good but the execution was INSANE. I could come up with a better story in 5 minutes. I really don’t understand why its so hard to write a good piece of media, especially with a story thats been told so many times in so many different forms of media that it’s gotten really unoriginal atp. They had SEVEN years to make this shit. I get that making a video game is insane work but considering the budget and the time that went into this they could atleast make it enjoyable. At some point I felt like I was genuinely watching an execution of a poorly written fanfic with everything that was going on. It was just SO messy and there were so many questions and plotholes and just things that didn’t add up. The thing I really enjoyed tho was the character designs and the character of abby. Besides the fact that shes hot as a MF you can tell that a lot of time and thought went into her. I just wish they would’ve done the same for the whole story and stayed consistent with it and didn’t try to paint her in a bad light on purpose just to make her seem like a saint later on who got her redemption arc, because this is in fact what happened and I really enjoyed watching her find her purpose but it was just idk. To like her you have to be really open minded and actually try to understand her and I dont that many people are capable of that, so the majority dislikes her. So imagine being that majority and having to play as her for a long time and then play as her in the finale. Thats obviously no fun. I feel like people expected joel to die, which was a really good choice but the execution was just not it and thats why people are upset at this character. Had they just changed her introduction and made the structure different, so that her motives became clear and the days switched between ellie and abby it would’ve been more digestible. You spend half the game consumed in ellies rage and killing everyone and everything and then you play with this girl for HOURS where now all of a sudden she’s painted with sunshine and rainbows and to that point her motives STILL aren’t clear and you expect it not to backfire? That makes no fucking sense. All in all I was able to get through the game simply because some things were really enjoyable, like the gameplay and some characters but overall its really not a good game and I think they’re realising it now, since theyre trying to give us a chronological order now (too late for that) Idk where everything went wrong but I just wish that writers nowadays would focus on a good story rather than insane graphics and gameplay. That should be the second priority. I really do hope that they release a third game and redeem themselves since theyre genuinely known to be a capable studio and it’s not looking good for them, especially with that fuckass hbo PARODY.
