There is no resolution to the problem, no suspense, and no true motive for the crime. These long one-take scenes were slow-moving and drawn out ad nauseam. So many pieces to the story are missing. Thereโs no trial (which is far more interesting than watching a family driving in a van for 35 minutes. We learn the knife is Ryanโs, but we donโt know how Jamie acquired the knife. Did Ryan give him the knife? Did Jamie steal the knife? Did Ryan pressure him to use the knife?
And what kind of school has no ramifications for students talking back to teachers, bullying other students in front of teachers and staff, and for beating up another student??? That school is unrealistic for its lack of control over the students.
Katieโs friend simply is allowed to go home after school like itโs a typical school day, even after she assaulted Ryan. She asks Ryan, โWhat have you done,โ which leads the audience into believing he has some culpability in the murder. Yet nothing happens to him except for a beating??
There is no closure for Katieโs family or Jamieโs family, the father can barely afford the paint to cover up the spray paint on his vanโฆyet he wastes the paint he can barely afford, and the psychiatrist is terrified and emotional as if she has never worked with a disturbed client before. So many discrepancies in this story.
