The Green Knight is an interesting enough attempt at trying to blend modern cinematic ideas and writing with a classical Arthurian poem, however, despite the lush landscapes and well crafted shot composition, it ultimately left me wanting more screen time to have the space to get to know certain characters better or to have the opportunity to see some of the sequences have a much more satisfying ending.
Don't get me wrong the movie hits so many good spots and I did find myself slipping into the narrative quite a bit but I was very disappointed with how bloated it felt and that lead to a kind of "in and out" attention span. I love darker movies and movies that are slower and methodical but this can brake to a halt in a lot of scenes. The added stuff from Lowery is very obvious plus doesn't really add anything to the narrative especially the love interest and the thieves. If you're here for just pure visual style and atmosphere this movie has it in spades, but it lacks a reason and direction for the more visual portions script wise.
Ultimately while the film is well acted, beautifully shot, perfectly edited, and all around an insanely well made film. The script is too bloated and choppy with little room to fully take in the deeper meanings and could've used a lot more down to earth heart.
