There is quite a lot of gratuitous violence, but you can always look away ! The Canadian locations, both in winter and other seasons, play an important role, and give it a special feel for us foreigners. The characters are believable and engaging, and while detective shows tend to follow a predictable pattern, this one maintains a reasonable degree of uncertainty over the plot twists. Best watched in batches, rather than as individual episodes, to keep up the tension.
