I remember watching the original series when I was little with my parents. I absolutely love this version. It is raw and brutal. Seeing it through the eyes of an adult is so much different though. As Christians, we tend to look at our past through rose-colored glasses. But Japan’s imperialism of this time also serves as a backdrop for Christian conflict and Europe’s arrogance over its supposed claim to these far off lands. It’s absolutely amazing. We need more historical-fiction dramas like these.
