The first time I watched the drama was in 2006. Itโs pretty charming and dreamy, especially for girls, since most of us dream of becoming a princess. It was a breath of fresh air as weโre used to British royal family stories.
As for the actors, Yoon Eun-hye and Ju Ji-hoon portrayed what is expected from their characters. To think that itโs their first drama to lead, they did extremely well. When some viewers say they donโt have chemistry and that the plot is bad because the leading actress canโt decide for herself, my rationale is that itโs how the story should flow, and I wouldnโt want to change it even if given a chance. It is always nice to live in someone elseโs world once in a while. Their characters have complicated personalities, and the actors should be able to show it. The fact that it leaves such an impression on us means they are effective performers. All of them actually set a good standard for such a TV genre.
I gave this 5 stars (and will still rate it the same after years) because it moved me in so many ways. It made me think of my career and my family. It brought out emotions I never thought of experiencing. It taught me to value my friends and that the past can significantly affect the futureโparticularly behavior. Of course, there are more dramas with likable plots, but Goong is one of the Korean dramas that paved the way.
