I am a kashmiri pandit. Am writing this review because I was shocked to see how the rating fell from 9 to 1 or 2 on imdb after few negative videos shaming the film started streaming online . Please don't judge this movie for all the negative publicity it has been receiving. I watched it first with my mom ,she wept till everyone had left the theatre and the guard had to escort us out. She watched it twice and loved it. It saddens me that this brilliant movie could not stay in the theatres for more than two weeks and I did not even get a chance to see it on the big screen with my friends who were waiting for it since they had always heard stories from me(that I heard from my family) but this was the first time a movie had been made on our story.(you can watch it now on Amazon prime) Since I have never visited kashmir Shikara has really brought me closer to my roots and I would want to go back. Kashmiri pandits/hindus exodus is a sensitive topic and has been conveniently ignored for the past 30 years.Time and again I have been questioned about my identity as I don't have typical indian features so as soon as I reveal it the next question is:are you a muslim? Unfortunately, only a handful of people know about what happened on the night of 19 Jan 1990 let alone about who we even are and if we exist: kashmiri pandits/hindus. I hope that if people watch Shikara I will be less bothered with such questions.
I would encourage you to watch this movie and take back with you a bigger message ,The message of love and hope. I would also like to add that despite all that our community had to go through we never lifted guns and that's what the movie has tried to convey. I am thankful to Vinod sir for taking this brave effort and dedicating 11 years to this which has definitely reflected in the film.
