This is a very funny satire of the unnatural and over-wrought Gothic novels of late 18th and early 19th century. The plot is much less restrained and refined than Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey." Lovers of Austen's Juvenilia probably will enjoy it. I laughed out loud a lot. The introduction, set on the moon, could be off-putting and can be skipped without missing anything relevant to the story.
