Radically unimpressed. Wells wrote the story from the point of view of an ordinary man caught up in a world-shattering event, with no idea of what might or might not be happening in the wider world. Wells knew how to write a 'human interest' story, and this wasn't one of them - so it's a pity the scriptwriter chose to do something different. And the 'moral lessons' so clumsily delivered in this tedious remake are, in the novel, pithy one-liners that pack a sharp punch without slowing the narrative. It was, at least, set in the right period, and what little we saw of the tripods was effective. Other than that, not worth watching.
