as the top review says, all the bad reviews are just from 12 year olds who wish they could've read captain underpants instead. this is a great book, it's very interesting in the way it explores children's imagination while also keeping itself grounded to the real world, and that's how it's magical in my opinion. I'd say it's definitely worth the read, but maybe not for middle schoolers with a low attention span.
