this show is so beautifully conflicting, sad, and happy at the same time. the changing feelings that zoey has for max and simon keep my coming back (personally i’m team zimon) and i never ever ever cry during tv shows but i bawled like a baby when (spoiler alert season one finale) zoey’s dad passes away.

I love love love this movie, there were multiple scenes where I almost burst into tears and I rarely cry over movies. I loved that the girls in this movie failed multiple times, but they kept pushing at it. I love that they empowered other girls to speak about the harassment they had been through and didn’t victim shame them. I love that this movie included women of all different races, genders, and sexualities. Lucy definitely became my favorite from the start and I could somewhat understand Claudia’s view (I am white so I couldn’t relate to the part about immigration, but I do relate to the part about strict parents). I will definitely be watching this movie again.

This movie is an ableist joke. There is one scene where Music has a breakdown and is forced into a prone position, which has been known to kill autistic people before. Promoting this prone position as a way to “help” is not only dishonest, it is dangerous. The bright colorful lights and loud musical numbers also can be overstimulating for many autistic people, which prevents them from watching the film that is supposed to represent them. The fact that Sia made no effort to cast an autistic girl to play Music and instead forced Maddie to play an autistic, biracial girl when she is neither autistic, nor biracial is disgusting.
