This movie lost its way. It had such potential. With Molly Shannon, Toni Collette, Bridget Everett and Katie Aselton, one would have expected better. It started very well and had a good workable premise: 4 tired mothers needed to get out and let loose. The script, however, lacked depth and ended up becoming just a derivation of previous "middle aged women doing crazy stuff" movies. Eventually the plot fell apart: even Everett's cabaret act and hypnotic breasts could not save this move from drifting away. The saving grace was that it was only 1:20.

I was deeply disappointed at this movie. I watched all seasons and all episodes faithfully. Many of the indivdual episodes had far more cohesive and believeable plots than this full-length film. The main premise of the movie was merely adequate for a standard 90-minute episode. It was obvious that the shockingly weak script needed to be muted and covered up by distracting "period" muzak. The score served only to assist the audience in directing their emotions as the script on its own was unable to do this. The CGI shots of the house and many of the interior camera work created a false "Hogwarts" vibe. I expected Maggie Smith and Imelda Staunton to emerge, wands at the ready. The patriarch of the family appeared to be nothing more than ballast - his character did little more than translate "Harumph" and "I say" into basic english. It appears that his purpose was to give a few lines of character summation near the end. Each character's conflct that the series created was predictably resolved in the most obvious manner possible. Yet the characters Mrs. Patmore-Mr. Mason and Mr. Moseley-Mrs. Baxter remained unfinshed, which was a bit perplexing. If you are a big fan of the series and are hoping for more of the same intrigue, prepare to be disappointed.
