Don’t fret about the headlines you see that say “Dear Evan Hansen is a awkward mess” this is far from the truth. I am just your average mentally unstable musical enjoyer and I fully loved this movie. I live in an area that hasn’t seen the stage production around so being able to finally get context for the beautiful soundtrack was amazing! This movie really speaks to people who have had to deal with mental illness and the songs feel like a hug. My only critic is yes Ben platt does look too old but to his credit if this is the only reason we can critic his performance is something that’s out of his control that’s not that bad. He also played this character on Broadway and you can tell he knows the character inside and out. People are quick to hate nowadays, but the reality is this musical holds a special place in so many hearts and has helped so many people seek help. I can’t thank the creators enough for making an accessible adaptation of this play so many more people can watch this beautiful story. That doesn’t mean the Broadway version shouldn’t come to Australia tho (please come 😭) 4/5 stars
