i enjoyed a majority of the tracks and having only listened to the 1975 for about a year, i don't think that i can compare this album to their others very well because i wasn't around for the other three album releases. i do agree with people who say that they think the best songs were released as singles, but there are some good non-singles such as nothing revealed/everything denied, playing on my mind, roadkill (i know that's controversial), and then because she goes. the message of the album is appropriate for the times that we are facing currently, and it barely misses perfection. my favorite the 1975 album is i like it when you sleep, which i'm listening to while writing this actually. that album had a better balance of instrumentals and songs with vocals and a slightly shorter length, which makes it a classic for me. as far as the notes album length of 80 minutes and 22 tracks, i do think that's a bit lengthy but appropriate since the deluxe version of their debut album was an hour and 10 minutes longer at a monstrous 2 hours and 30 minutes (look it up if you don't believe me). therefore long the 1975 albums have been a standard since the beginning and critics and fans alike should expect that already instead of bashing them for it. ultimately, this album's polarizing reviews aren't deserved, because it is neither the worst or best album of all time. it is, however, a very well produced and well made album and i highly recommend you take a listen to the album's entire body of work.
