Some Weirdo

Still the best Peter Pan Film, even after Disney's remake which captured none of the magic of Neverland.

I'm rewatching this movie in 2022 right now and I STILL love it. The CGI is good, the story feels a little like 'this was a book and was condensed into a movie' in a barely rough noticeable manner but it's SO good. One of my favorites still.

This was literally... So strange. I'm only an episode in. Ellie felt slightly out of character, being overly rude to Manny for no reason. Peaches is just, Gone. Shira, one of my most favorite characters, is also MIA. The animation quality clearly took a dumpster dive. It looks like a new animation stole the original designs, put their own style on their own characters, and called it a day. Sid looks strange as well, like they tried to change his design. On top of that, there are super strange scenes were characters are supposed to be shot off or go through a crack, but we don't see that. They're absent from the shot then just appear on the other side. Bucks side profile looks super wrong and there's just something about him that's unsettling and gross. Buck used to be my absolute favorite character. The film format is weird too. I expected better.

Spoiler safe, then spoiler warning: I wrote a thorough detailed review before but it got erased. I'll just hit the main points minus the chatter. I went to go see this with my cousin two days ago. The music is absolutely spectacular, don't get me wrong. But this movie is hilariously bad. And I'm extremely easy to please. I liked Strange Magic. If Yk, yk. While there are some beautiful animated moments there are also many that are horribly animated. Characters stay idle in non crowded backgrounds for several minutes with unblinking eyes or wide open mouths. Literal minutes. The eye physics are really bad In the one regard that Characters stare several feet above the heads of other characters while speaking to them or randomly look past them or in a totally different direction. My cousin asked how these scenes even made it through production. ⛔SPOILERS AHEAD⛔ Many of us were led to believe this was a beauty and the beast type deal. But it's not. At least, not romantically. Belle and Beast have several intimate moments. Nothing crazy, but moments I can't describe as platonic. She seems to be an older high school student and for a majority of the film we are led to believe the beast is a grown man. It's randomly revealed at a whiplashing pace that he is 14 and being abused by his father. I've watched plenty of young romances. Your lie in April, weathering with you, Oruan host club, etc. But this one... me and my cousin are 18 and 17 and we were incredibly uncomfortable. He looked like he was 9 years old. There's another boy shown at the beginning of the film who we don't get enough bait to get attached to him and seems like a red herring ML big brother type. But Belle randomly switches over to him despite touching up on the beast in body censor virtual reality not even a day before. The pacing itself is incredibly weird and forced. There are tons of useless characters such as Roxanne wolf (The other lead celeb in VR looks like Roxanne wolf from FnafSB lol) and the antagonist, as my cousin calls him, "Allmight and Goku's bootleg cousin." Sins: -1 Ruka is unnecessary and looks NOTHING like Belle. Could have had 6 minutes more for making the plot not rushed if you took out every 'Ruka looks like Belle' -1 This universe condones doxxing and uses it as a plot point -1 For Belle vomiting on herself In the snow, going home, and doing homework with unwashed vomit still on her face -1 for 9 year old- sorry- 14 year old ML red herring -1 For beauty and the beast trope baiting when the ML is a child and not actually the ML -10 for bad pacing and choppy plot execution. Pros: +1 We loved the boat guy, he was precious and carried the entire film. +1 There were two extremely hot demon fantasy boys who showed up for two seconds during Belle's performance as herself -1 Because they never showed up again
