Genuinely, not as a meme review, this is one of my favourite movies of recent years (and no, I'm not a kid, or someone who doesn't watch movies frequently).
I generally watch artsy movies, horror movies, sci-fi and a few under the radar comedies, but as someone who credits Minecraft for shaping my childhood, I had to give this one a shot.
To put it frankly, the movie was absolutely hilarious if you've kept up to date on all the memes about it, tons of references to internet culture, cameos from Minecraft YouTubers and a genuinely great performance from one of the comedy great, once again from my childhood.
The thing with this movie was, it felt like the cast were just having fun. Was the acting perfect? Nope, were some of the characters way underutilized? Definitely, but overall the movie was just a laugh. It was just good fun.
I'm not sure why so many people seemed to go to this movie with the expectation of some life changing experience, but as someone who went to it to watch a comedy movie based on one of my favorite childhood (to now) video games, with that jack black early 2000s comedy flair, it was hilarious, detailed and had TONS of Easter eggs.
