The people giving this movie a low rating didn't understand it. You have to realize the little girl is in his head. He is imagining taking care of his daughter that he never met. She's not really there in his last days as he's dying. He lost his blood transfusion machine in the sea so he only had 1 week to live. In his last week he got the message to the space crew to not come back to earth. They got the message and were going to turn around to go back to K23. They would be in radio silence for 9 days and George Clooney wouldn't be alive to talk to them ever again. It's over for George and the rest of planet earth. The space crew is now only consisting of 1 (pregnant) white woman and 1 black man to start a new world on K23. "I guess it's just us." You gotta watch the movie twice to pick up everything. The little girl is Iris and the female space crew member is Iris and in George's last dying days wants to make sure his daughter goes on to restart the human race and coincidentally his own blood. She doesn't realize it's her dad. They never met. But George knows. Still being a protective dad in the shadows. Deep meaning.
