Outstanding documentary. Anyone writing a negative review because they “had parents who lived there” or they live there and believe it to be utopia, etc. missed the beauty of this documentary. I lived and worked in The Villages for 4 years. This movie showed all 3 town squares that exist there. I appreciate that this movie had no mention of the political tensions that are very real there.
This documentary was about real people’s lives. Yes, The Villages is “Disney” for seniors. It is a beautiful place that, for the majority, offers endless activities and the ability to maintain independence. However, having worked with countless Villagers and having spent a lot of time there, I can tell you that loneliness exists in The Villages, as in other large communities of seniors, as people are coping with challenges of aging.
This documentary didn’t cast a dark light on The Villages at all. However, what has are the many reviews written by Villagers who are “disgusted” by this documentary and some even have called the people in this documentary horrible names and said they were paid actors. You certainly are a poor representation of what is suppose to be “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.”
