Each time I watch movies like this, one of the first things I do when I'm done with it is go online in search of the reviews. Movies like this tear my heart away. I remember watching 'American Son and The Banker' and a lot of other movies that evoke empathy towards a particular race and I always ask myself if I would be able to travel abroad. These movies give me strong reasons to remain where I am.
Queen and Slim made me feel all sorts of emotion; Hope, Love, Tears, Anger, Despair.... I just wonder at how other races adapt in such an environment when they know they aren't really accepted.
One of the reviews talked extensively about Hope and calling on the errors of not giving the black man a Hope by gearing the movie to a court session but I think I love the way it ended because it's a reminder that the blacks are still not safe. If they had added the court session and ended it in favour of Queen and Slim, it would have been 1 out of a hundred of such cases in America which is not Hope enough.
I love the movie and I like the fact that it helps me maintain my stance to remain in my country, come what may and if possible, make this country work.
