Freedom Planet is a platform game that derives concepts from many different games. At first, it looks like a Sonic-esque game and the controls would feel familiar at times that one could mistakenly try to do a spin dash. Although it started as a Sonic fanmade game, it has enough elements to call it an original game. It has a really good beat-em-up gameplay, great character designs, astonishing 8-bit to 16-bit graphics, very good music and quite challenging bosses.
Subjectively, the plot, pacing of the story and tone are one of the flaws that the game possess. The plot seems a bit lack luster as it's not something new to an average gamer or even the average person. The pacing could be short or very long like the cutscenes and the tone couldn't be consistent on whether it shall be family friendly, dramatic or dark and disturbing. Additionally, the voice acting provided in the game is very much poor as the voices of the characters could be heard at different volumes and intensity and some lines are bit cheesy.
While the game has a Classic mode(Plays the game without the story and cutscenes) to fix the subjective flaws, as a first time player you would want to experience what the game has in store for you. Overall the game is pretty good and I recommend that people give it a chance. 8.5/10
