This movie tore my heart out, but in a good way. Helped make me reflect how lucky I am to have my family and loved ones with me (both furry and humans). I fell in love with this book when I first read it six years ago and was ecstatic to see it played out so well on the big screen. This movie might be better suited for more mature audiences, and be aware there is heavy themes of death, depression, and human corruption in it.

Very iffy about it. Music was great and I feel Hamish Patel did a wonderful job in the movie but the plot seemed all over the place and I was left mostly confused at times. Maybe’s is just because I’m a teenager and don’t know a lot about the Beatles but as a movie lover the romance bit seemed over dramatic and hard to follow. Anytime with Patel’s or Lili James interactions I felt rushed and like you have to pay attention to every little thing they say or you’ll have no idea what they’re arguing about. It was humorous at times, but dry, and I feel I was expecting something different from the vibe the trailers gave. All in all, I think it was good and for everyone who can just enjoy a music filled movie without paying attention details you’ll love it, but maybe brush up about the Beatles so u won’t be totally confused like I sort of was.

Though it was moving and showed a great family bond, this movie really rubbed me the wrong way. Coming from an atheist though, the whole ‘in gods hands’ idea when it comes to critical medical emergencies like the one in the movie is a very tricky thing to play. Joyce’s whole thing with how God is gonna fix everything and relying on him alone to save John while ignoring that fact that John would most likely die or be very mentally disable is a classic example of the toxicity of faithful blindness. This is seen exactly with the mindset of anti-vaccine parents, where they rather rely on ‘nature and spirit’ take care of their kids instead of advanced and civilized medical care/technology. The movie overall just sends out a message that ‘thoughts and prayers’ should be enough to save a kids life.
