I think this was an amazing and unique take on portraying who the Joker is, his origins and his deep seated conflict with Batman. I especially loved how it portrays that the Wayne family is not exactly entirely innocent in the forging of the Joker. Batman's father is depicted as somewhat of a snobby rich elitist trying to escape his past love affair with the Joker's mother. The Joker further goes on to show how as much as the rich are allowed to practically step on the poor, yet they are put on a pedestal and celebrated, yet the suffering and struggles of those from the slums are practically ignored by society. Interestingly murdering of the rich elite such as by the Joker, gains immediate attention, on the contrary no one bats an eye when it happens to someone from the slums. Thomas Wayne's casting aside and dismissal of Penny Fleck and denial of her son (the Joker) adds icing to the cake and puts an interesting driving force behind Joker's conflict with the Wayne family. The film overall provides a unique and fresh perspective of who the Joker is and how he came to be. At one point I even feel a sort of empathy for the Joker, as essentially his desire to to bring Gotham to chaos and disarray stems from his hatred of the rich elite like Bruce Wayne and Murray who are happy to to casually ignore the suffering of those beneath them. Interestingly as the Joker rises to infamy in the city, the people actually celebrate him perhaps as way of expressing their joint disdain for people like the Wayne family.
