I find Leon rude, and a poor traveler. When I travel, I try and learn at least a few phrases of the local language. He runs around yelling at the local people asking if anyone speaks English, until he can eventually find ex-pats or other travelers. What is the point of showing the kindness of other cultures if you aren't actually experiencing it? He uses his white privilege to try and get things from people- this wouldn't work for anyone else. Having lived in Costa Rica for many years, I know they are extremely hospitable people. You wouldn't have had to sleep in your car if you would have tried to learn a few phrases in Spanish, instead of screaming out some strange English/ French/ Italian gibberish.
